IFOS World Congress 2023: MCI's turnkey solution for record attendance

The challenge

Every four years, otorhinolaryngologist experts from all over the world gather at the international Federation of Otorhinolaryngological Societies (IFOS) World Congress to participate in round tables, panels, instructional courses, oral presentations, an exhibition, as well as networking with their peers during the social programme.

With the cancellation of the June 2022 conference, the 22nd Congress was rescheduled for January 2023 in Dubai. This placed a great responsibility on our client, the United Arab Emirates ENT Society, to prepare and present a successful congress within a very tight timeframe (less than a year).

MCI was tasked with providing a complete turnkey solution that would attract sponsors, speakers and attendees.

Our creative strategy

MCI in partnership with the ENT society embarked on an ambitious and successful journey to deliver the world’s largest gathering of ENT & ORL HNS Specialists.

First, we defined our primary audience: otorhinolaryngologist experts, physicians, nurses and students.

Then, under the banner of “Connecting minds, creating the future for a better tomorrow”, we developed a complete, end-to-end marketing strategy to promote a comprehensive scientific programme that would explore new horizons for enhancing ORL treatment and improving patient care and wellbeing. This included press and media, social media platforms and below the line communication. We also developed the conference website and app, and designed a sponsorship strategy. Reaching out to potential speakers, partners and delegates, we highlighted the advantages of involvement and leveraged the global IFOS network.

Our MCI Dubai team took on scientific-content & committee management, event production, room management, speaker management, abstract management, social programmes, transportation, accommodation management – in other words, the project management of the entire conference.

Results

Our creative strategy paid off: IFOS Dubai 2023 was a five-day event that boasted more than 90 sponsorship partners, delivered a record number of speakers and attracted more than 7,000 delegates from around the world.

The conference included sold out, hands-on surgical workshops on middle ear infections, cochlear implants and stapes replacement, training on using endoscopes and surgical navigators, as well as respiratory failure and snoring, and on plastic and functional surgeries.

Delegates had 49 parallel tracks to choose from with lectures on the latest developments in various ORL specialisations including audiology, speech and balance. The event also attracted over 3,500 scientific abstracts in various sub-specialties.

The 22nd IFOS World Congress 2023 held at the Dubai World Trade Center was the largest scientific discourse ever held in the ENT space, and an unqualified success.

Partner with MCI to engage the thought leaders of today and tomorrow.
