THE CHALLENGE

Position the tradeshow as the leading event in Brazil's financial sector 

 

MCI's collaboration with Febraban Tech 2023 resulted in a highly successful event that exceeded expectations for our client, the Brasilian Federation of Banks (Febraban). By integrating innovative technologies, optimising operational efficiencies, and championing sustainability, MCI not only met the challenges but also set new benchmarks in the industry. The strategic approach led to increased satisfaction among attendees and exhibitors alike, solidifying Febraban Tech's position as a premier event in the financial technology sector.
 

At the outset, the challenges included:

  • Optimising registration and flow: Managing large crowds efficiently to prevent long queues and improve the participant journey. 
  • Integrating sustainability practices: Reducing the event's environmental impact and promoting ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives.

THE SOLUTION

A comprehensive, creative strategy

To foster a more interactive environment, encouraging networking, learning, and participation, MCI Brazil reimagined the traditional conference format by introducing the concept of "Festivalization," turning the event into a dynamic experience.  

To optimise registration, we introduced a facial biometrics system, increased queuing options from two in 2022 to 15 in 2023, and introduced QR coded event badges for virtual accreditation. We also conducted studies to optimise the use of space, enhancing the flow and experience within the tradeshow, designing intelligent pathways to manage attendee movement efficiently and reduce congestion. 

To highlight Febraban Tech’s leadership in financial innovation, attendees entered through an immersive tunnel featuring a virtual universe, setting an innovative tone for the event. There was also a metaverse stage blending physical and virtual realities: Speakers and participants interacted within the metaverse while in the same physical auditorium, showcasing cutting-edge technology. AI-powered chatbots enhanced communication and provided real-time assistance and information to attendees, improving engagement and satisfaction. 


Sponsor activation strategy and ESG 


We designed a system for Febraban to calculate the carbon footprint generated, neutralise it according to the impacts caused, and properly dispose of waste. Microsoft sponsored the entire initiative and, as part of the activation, we created a stand at the event entrance with bicycles. The energy generated by participants who chose to pedal was converted into tree planting. This provided an intelligent activation for the sponsor while educating and raising awareness among participants to mitigate impacts in future editions.

THE RESULTS

Meeting and exceeding expectations

Attendance at the tradeshow increased by 76% percent over the previous event and achieved high levels of participant interaction through our use of immersive technologies. Accreditation time was reduced from two hours in 2022 to just four minutes per person in 2023, even with an attendance increase from 25,000 to 44,000 delegates. As a result, first impressions and overall satisfaction were enhanced.  

The tradeshow featured 242 exhibitors, providing diverse opportunities for networking and collaboration, while the festival-like atmosphere and intelligent design improved navigation and enjoyment.
 

Our sustainability activation was also great success:
 

  • CO₂ offset: 80 tons of CO₂ were offset through calculated efforts to neutralise the carbon footprint. 
  • Saplings planted: The energy produced by cycling attendees was converted into the planting of 490 saplings. 
  • Waste management: Improved waste management practices reduced environmental impact, achieving 33% recycled waste. 
  • Awareness and education: Engaged attendees in sustainability efforts, promoting environmental responsibility for future events. 

MCI addressed the challenges faced by Febraban Tech 2023 through innovative solutions, strategic planning, and a strong focus on sustainability, resulting in significant improvements and successes across multiple facets of the event.
